Heartbreaking for you but you did the best thing for Rufus. The pics say everything. He is well taken care of. So hard though.
Elderly parents and their care are a full time job and it is a privilege to do so but also the most stressful & time consuming role. Everyone’s situation is different but it is always difficult. Sending your Mom & you a big hug. 🩷
Yes, my heart feels fragile about it all, and I know so many others are in this season of caregiving for their parents. It is indeed a privilege. I feel useful being here helping and lucky to have any time at all with her no matter how difficult. Hugs back to you.
Rufus is such a sweetheart. So glad to see he is adjusting and happy in his new home! Sad for you and your husband, but you absolutely made the wise choice for all of you. Best of luck with your Mom. 🙏🏻 I have been there with both parents. 💜
There is love in everything you shared and every action you took. As an owner of a dog sanctuary I see dogs that come to us out of complete consideration of what’s best for the dog.
These are good dogs. Dogs that have been well loved and well taken care of but have been lovingly handed over by their owners so the dog can have a better life.
Well done and not easy to do.
Wishing you ease and grace with this chapter of aging parents. I am experiencing this too. But as you have shown you have a mountain of love to give and the strength to make it happen.🩷
Lots of love and hugs to you, Greg and your whole family 🥹. Rufus was what you needed at the time and his time in Washington is where he needs to be now. Definitely pulls at your heart strings but all things happen for a reason. Take care of your momma ❤️
Sending you so much love as I read this with tears in my eyes. Rufus was so lucky to have you as his mom, even if that meant that he was ultimately meant to live elsewhere. The photos of him with his brother hiking and relaxing are proof that you made the right decision for all of you. I wondered when you posted about leaving the ranch again so soon after returning from a trip if it was about your mom. I am so sorry to hear that her health is not good, and I am sending you so much strength and peace as you give so much of yourself to the ones you love. Watching our parents age is terrifying, and I can only imagine the multitude of emotions pouring through you. Please don’t give a thought to anyone who would judge your decisions during this difficult time. They aren’t worth your energy in the least. Take care of yourself, take care of your mom, and know that your words and honesty are valued and appreciated by so many of us. 💜💜
You knew. Your instincts were right. So sweet of you to stay so attuned. Thank you for the constant support and encouragement Louise! It is all supremely emotional so I'm trying to take care of myself so I can be the strongest I can be for my family. Day by day.
You did what was in the best interest of Rufus and your family. I just went through this until my mother passed in 2023. It was 5 years of needing to be present. No judgement from me. Sending you love!
People feel free to judge and make faulty assumptions on the internet in ways I'll never understand, but the vast majority of people know your love and commitment to dogs, including Rufus. I still think about the way you cared for and honored Scarlet her last days and how your entire community joined in. I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you were Rufus's mom for the time he clearly needed to be right where he was. Sending healing, peaceful energy to your mom as well. Caregiving is so many things, and i hope the journey is full of love most of all.
These words are incredibly comforting Kiki. Truly. We feel your love and well wishes. The deep love is here and will never leave. The heart is fragile but it's only a result of loving so completely! Thank you for the reminder.
You selflessly made a decision that was best for your family and sweet Rufus. He made memories for you in his short time and you still get to enjoy his sweet adventures from afar! Thank you for sharing and sending you all the love!🤍
Honestly, the hardest, most heart-breaking decisions are often the ones that are best in the long run. You did what is best for Rufus and he will thrive. Well done for making a difficult decision. There's so much judgement in this world :-(

You did what was best for Rufus - I'm sure he's thriving where he is now. It certainly looks lovely there.
Sending best wishes for your mother 🤗
Tears. Thank you for your support and kindess.
