The How
Becoming the architect of your beautiful life
Some of you who have been here for a while may already be familiar with The How. You read the guidebook, you downloaded it, and you even wrote to me about the ways it shifted something in your life.
But I also know this community is constantly growing. New readers arrive every week (so grateful!), and many of you never saw this when I first shared it.
So in the spirit of making sure this message reaches every heart that might need it, I wanted to revisit it.
Because what started as a personal experiment with alcohol turned into something much bigger for me. It opened a door into living more consciously, more intentionally, and with far more self-trust.
And that is what this guide is really about.
Over the last few years, many of you have watched me evolve.
Not just professionally, but personally.
The way I think about my time.
My nervous system.
My habits.
My relationships.
And perhaps most visibly, my relationship with alcohol.
For a long time, I felt a quiet tension around drinking. Nothing that would raise eyebrows. Just the subtle feeling that I was not fully present with myself when alcohol was in the picture. I felt like I was leaving myself, getting further away from myself over time.
Eventually, I decided to experiment.
What would happen if I removed it?
Not as punishment.
Not as a rule.
Just as an honest experiment in staying with myself.
What unfolded from that decision changed more than I expected. My energy shifted. My clarity sharpened. My mornings felt different. I began to notice how many of my habits were automatic, inherited, or socially conditioned rather than intentional.
It opened the door to a much bigger realization.
Most of us are living inside patterns we never consciously chose.
And that is when I began thinking about something I talk about often now.
We can become the architects of our own lives.
Not overnight. Not perfectly. But intentionally.
That idea became the foundation for a digital guide I created called The How.
I made it because so many people asked me the same question once I began sharing my alcohol free journey.
“Okay… but how did you actually do it?”
Not just the decision to stop drinking.
But the deeper shifts that come with it.
What happens when alcohol leaves the picture
For many people, removing alcohol is not just about the substance itself.
It changes identity.
Suddenly you are navigating questions like:
What does my social life look like now?
How do I explain this to friends?
Will people think something is wrong?
What do I do when cravings show up?
These are real questions. And they deserve thoughtful answers.
In The How, I walk through the psychological and practical side of that transition.
Things like:
• how your identity shifts when alcohol is no longer part of it
• how to talk about it with friends without making it awkward
• how to handle social situations and expectations
• what cravings actually are and how to move through them
• how to build new habits that support the person you are becoming
But the guide also expands beyond alcohol itself.
Because once you begin changing one habit consciously, something interesting happens.
You realize you can change other things, too.
Your routines.
Your emotional patterns.
The way you speak to yourself.
The way you design your days.
That is the deeper work.
Why I created the guide
I created The How because awareness alone is not enough.
We can read every inspirational quote in the world and still wake up living the same day over and over again.
Real change comes from practice.
Small decisions repeated consistently.
Understanding your mind.
Understanding your habits.
Understanding the environments that shape your behavior.
When you begin to see those clearly, you can start making different choices.
That is when life starts to shift.
Who this guide tends to resonate with
The people who tend to love The How are usually in some form of transition.
They are curious about their relationship with alcohol.
They are exploring a more conscious way of living.
They are asking deeper questions about identity, habits, and personal growth.
Sometimes it is someone who simply wants to take a break from drinking.
Sometimes it is someone who is ready to leave it behind entirely.
And sometimes it is someone who just wants to feel more intentional in the way they live.
If you are curious
If any of this resonates, you can explore the guide here.
It is meant to be read at your own pace and return to whenever you need a reset.
And if you already purchased it, thank you. Truly.
The messages I receive from people who have used it to rethink their habits, their drinking, and their relationship with themselves mean the world to me.
We are all learning how to live more consciously.
Sometimes, all it takes is one small decision to open the door.
One more thing. Not to worry. My whole Substantial Substack will not be morphing into an alchohol-free, non-drinkers zone. This is just one facet of my very human experience, but the rewards have been so plentiful that from time to time this will of course be a topic!
With love from the ranch,
Catt
